Bike ferry in Aggsbach-Dorf

Free ferry bypasses Rockslide at Aggstein.

Due to the rockslide on June 3 on the right bank of the Danube, the area became difficult to access for cars and cyclists. The closure of the Danube cycle path after the rockslide disrupted continuous road and bicycle traffic from Aggsbach-Dorf to Aggstein. This posed a significant problem for the region because many tourism businesses along the highway depend on bicycle tourism.

For seven weeks, intensive efforts were made to install a ferry to bypass the slide area for cyclists and pedestrians. The province of Lower Austria has now established a ferry service that bypasses the problem area by water from our Dock No. 13.

The bicycle and pedestrian ferry connects the towns of Aggsbach-Dorf and Aggstein, from Dock No. 13 in Aggsbach-Dorf to the slipway (concrete ramp at Radlerhof Kienesberger) in Aggstein, for as long as necessary. It operates in both directions every 30 minutes and can be used free of charge. The duration of a trip is between five and eight minutes, and the ferry runs daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. During peak times, such as weekends and holidays, the transport capacity is doubled.

DonauStationen provides the dock free of charge, thus supporting local businesses.
